SEATON STILL LOOKING FOR ELITE VICTORY

Seaton are still waiting for their first Devon Mini-League victory having fallen short by just 47 runs away to Exmouth in the Premier East division on Saturday.

Having won the toss, Seaton put the home team into bat, a decision they might have regretted with Exmouth on 175 for 2 at one stage. They went on to total 256 for the loss of five wickets in their 45 overs with James Horler (85), Tim Piper (57) and George Greenway (30) top scoring. Rory Thomas and Finlay Marks weighed in each with 25 useful runs.

The Seaton bowlers toiled hard with little reward with Joe Berry returning the best figures of 3-57 off nine overs.

Seaton, in reply, got off to an explosive start with opener Josh Cann hitting 71 off 53 balls including 15 4s. Joel Seward hit a more than useful 43 but only two other batsmen, skipper b

Ben Morgan (13), batting at No 7, and No 10, Tim Doulton, carrying his bat for 36, reached double figures and they were all out for 209.

Bowling honours for Exmouth were shared by Ryan Shaufler (3 for 36) and Sam Goodier (3 for 39).

Seaton are now firmly entrenched at the bottom of the Premier East elite division with just 15 points from their first three games.

Exmouth 20 points; Seaton 6 points

This coming Saturday they are away to Budleigh Salterton (12.30 pm start).

KILMINGTON STAY TOP IN CLOSELY FOUGHT ENCOUNTER

In a closely fought encounter away to Ottery St Mary, Kilmington strengthened their position at the top of East E 1 (Tier 3) with a two-wicket victory over Ottery St Mary.

The home team won the toss and elected to bat but found runs hard to come by in the extreme heat, being bowled out for 180 runs. Top scorers were No 2 Alex Clements (37), Eddie Rudolph (62) and Harsha Sinnappu Llyanage (20).

Skipper Brett Garner was the pick of the Kilmington bowlers, taking 3 for 39 off 8 overs). Oliver Reed, Matt Reed and Josh Short grabbed themselves two wickets apiece.

Kilmington knocked off the runs for two overs to spare, finishing with 182-8 after 38 overs). Billy Read (66) and Oliver Reed (52) steered them to victory. Will Harrison (3-36) took the bolwing honours for Ottery.,

Kilmington 20 points; Ottery St Mary 8 pts.

Kilmington lead the East E 1 (Tie r3) division with 40 points, just three points ahead of Upottery 1sts.

This coming Saturday Kilmington are at home to Sidmouth 2nds.

TYLER MAKES IT THREE CONSECUTIVE CENTURIES FOR UPLYME

Two consecutive centuries was thought to be a record in East Devon club cricket but just to make sure Tyler Wellman scored another 100 in Uplyme & Lyme Regis' 138-run victory at home to Honiton.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Uplyme lost their first three wickets cheaply before Tyler came to the crease batting at No 4.

At this juncture the home side were struggling on 50-3 but Wellman soon demonstrated that he was still in commanding form and in another spell-binding innings saw Uplyme through to 200 plus but on this occasion he lost his wicket , having scored 106 runs, when caught by Michael Docherty off James Pickard's bowling.

Wellman is beginning to be a bit of a box-office attraction with a large crowd eager to see him bat every week and he has already said he is going to try and make it four centuries in a row next Saturday.

Uplyme's middle order saw them through to score of 247 for 6 off the 40 overs with Joe Elsworth (43) and No 7 Sam Farrow (40) making important contributions.

It was a long, hot afternoon for the Honiton bowlers with James Pickard (2 for 32) and Michael Docherty (2 foe 36) finishing with the best figures.

Although Honiton got off to a steady start with 51 runs on the board and just two wickets down, the middle order and tail collapsed and they were all out for 109 with one batsmen, Lewis Blackwell, having to retire because of the heat.

Skipper Steve Batey was the pick of the Uplyme attack, taking 5 for 12 off eight overs. Tyler Wellman (2 for 7 off 2 overs) and Sam Farrow (2 for 23 off 5) shared the other wickets.

This victory leaves Uplyme leading the East E 3 (Tier 5) with 56 points and favourites to go into the knock-out stages in September.

THIRD DEFEAT LEAVES S AXMINSTER AT FOOT OF TABLE

In East E 3 (Tier 5), Axminster Town won the toss and decided to bowl first at home to Ottery St Mary 2nds, a decision skipper Paul Miller was soon regretting.

Ottery moved steadily on to 58 before Dan Jeacock was bowled for 28. Ottery had some steady partnerships getting to 130 for 5 before Tom Jeacock, with 35 not out, batting at No 6, scored most of the runs with the tail to get his team up to a competitive score of 180 for 9 of their 40 overs . Other useful scores came from Jonathan Triner (32) and Dan Flower (22).

Axminster's Best bowling came from Alex Wraight in his first game of the season, finishing with figures of 5 for 28 off six overs. He took out most of the middle order. Jennifer Poole, Owen Enticott and Jamie Toates all picked up a wicket each and there was a run out as well.

Like last week the Axminster reply got off to a bad start with Max Mayor dismissing both openers - Brad Conway and Andrew Guppy- and George Mutter removing Paul Millerand Rollo Squire) before 30 was on the board. They were quickly quickly followed by Ben Webb , leaving Axminster at 30 for 5 after 8 overs.

Than a partnership of 59 between Jamie Toates (41) and Dan Murnane (2) injected a bit of life back in the batting but soon after Jamie was bowled by Max Moore and Dan was dismissed by Brett Venables the writing was on the wall as Axminster were bowled out for 130 in 33.5 overs.

Max Mayor (2 for 19 of 3 overs), George Mutter (2 for 11 of 4 overs), Jonathan Triner (2 for12 of 5 overs) and Brett Venables (2 for 18 of 6.5 overs) did the damage for Ottery.

Axminster Town 7 points; Ottery Sy Mary 2nds 19 pts.

This defeat leaves Axminster entrenched at the foot of East E 3 (Tier 5) with 14 points from their opening three games.

This coming Saturday, Axminster are away to Ottery St Mary (1 pm start).

SLOW SCORING RATE PROVES COSTLY FOR SEATON 2nds

Although their top order batsmen all made runs, Seaton 2nds fell short by just five runs in their East E4 (Tier 6) against Upottery 2nds.

Upottery won the toss and put Seaton into bat. Although the higher order all contributed runs, their scoring rate did not come up to scratch with a final score of 155 for the loss of six wickets after their 30 overs.

Seaton's top scorers were Harvey Brown (50), Adam Tony Tucker (55) and David Turner (24).

Andrew Pulman was Upottery's most successful bowler with figures of 3-35 off seven overs.

Upottery also found runs hard to come by but they just edged it in the end, scoring 159 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Top scorers were Adam Retter (29), Peter-John Kall (29) and Andrew Pulman (26).

Terry Welsh (3-35) finished with Upottery's best bowling figures.

Seaton 2nds 7 points; Upottery 2nds 18 pts.

This coming Saturday Seaton 2nds are at home to Sampford Peverill & Tiverton (1 pm start).

ANOTHER 20-POINTER FOR CHARDSTOCK

Chardstock scored another maximum 20 points to stay top of the East E 2 (Tier 4) division after a 70-run victory over Clyst Hydon.

Chardstock won the toss and elected to bat and got off to a swift start with the first five batsmen finding the boundary frequently.

Edward Pyman (51), Steve Allsopp (68), Rob Hutchings (62) and Tom Warren (28) all looked in good nick got among the runs in Chardstock's total of 284 all out, their last wicket falling off the last over.

Joshua Richards (4 for 61 off 9 overs) and Williams Thornton (3 for 43) shone with the ball for Clyst Hydon.

In reply, Clyst made a brave effort but were trailing by 70 when they were all our fore 214 runs with just two balls to be bowled.

Rob Hutchings bowled superbly for Chardstock, taking 3 for 9 off 9 overs). Alex Watson also claimed a couple of wickets.

Chardstock 20 points; Clyst Hydon 10 points).

It's tight at the top of East E 2 (Tier 4) with Chardstock leading the pack with 40 points but only two points ahead of Sampford Peverill and Tiverton whi have a game in hand.
