A DIVISION

Saturday, June 25 -Barton 1st XI v Kilmington 1st XI

A heavy defeat on the road at Barton by 98 runs leaves Kilmington in the A Division relegation zone for the first time this season, writes Martin Huscroft.

Having won the toss and put the home side in, Kilmington's best moment was at 72-4 after Joel Seward (3-27), in an excellent ten-over spell, picked up his third wicket. After that, Indian Under 19 international Siddesh Veer scored half the home side's runs with a magnificent 127*, support coming from Adrian Lipton (27) and Nathan Beech (32*). Barton finished on 256-6, a score locals felt was well above par.

After three balls, Kilmington were 0-2, and despite a battling 27 from Josh Cann and a swashbuckling 44 from Josh Short, with 4 fours and 4 sixes, the team ended on 158 all out against Callum Crocker's 5-10.

If Kilmington can regain their early season self belief and fearless play, sixth place in the table is only 16 points from them and they are in a position to climb the table.

Barton 1st XI 256-6 (50 overs) Siddesh Veer 127*, Nathan Beech 32*, Joel Seward 3-27 Kilmington 1st XI 158 (38.4 overs) Josh Short 44, Josh Cann 27, Callum Crocker 5-10

Seaton's season of woe continued with their eighth defeat on the trot at home to Exeter 1st X1 where they were bowled out for just 79.

Exeter won the toss and elected to bat, setting Seaton the formidable task of chasing 320-7 off 50 overs. Ben Morgan (2 for 47 off ten overs) and Jospeh Berry (2 for 52) were the pick of the home bowlers.

Seaton's chase never got going with just two batters - opener Damian Baxter (18) and Ben Morgan (10) getting into double figures.

Seaton look destined for promotion, firmly entrenched at the bottom of the table with just 35 points from their first eight games.

Seaton 7 points; Exeter 1yst X1 20 points.
