Lyme Regis lifeboat crew approach the kayakers at Beer

TWO lifeboat crews were called after an upturned kayak was spotted off Beer.

The Beer Coastguard Rescue Team were patrolling the beach to ensure safety when they saw the upturned kayak with two people in the water near Pounds Pool, with wind blowing them out towards Beer Head.

Cllr Paul Arnott - new leader of East Devon District Council

EAST Devon district councillors reconvened this morning to complete the election of a new leader and deputy leader after last's night extraordinary meeting was abandoned "due to technical issues".

As councillors were casting their votes, the meeting, being streamed live on YouTube, was suspended for violating the site's terms and conditions after a councillor used a profanity which was not muted.

Crews attend fire in open countryside

Seaton and Sidmouth fire crews attended the incident in the open countryside

CREWS were called to extinguish a fire in the open countryside between Seaton and Beer yesterday evening (Wednesday).

Fire crews from Seaton and Sidmouth attended the scene, using a hose reel jet and a compressed air foam system to bring the fire under control promptly.

BEER Parish Council has released a statement on how it intends to ease the village out of lockdown.

The parish council has acknowledged that some residents may have concerns about the village opening up to visitors as the government's coronavirus lockdown restrictions are eased, but it said that tourists must be made to feel welcome as the local economy relies on them.

Coastguards warn against tombstoning

COASTGUARDS have issued a warning on the dangers of tombstoning, after a group of youngsters were seen jumping off Axmouth harbour wall at the weekend.

Tombstoning refers to jumping in a straight or upright position into the sea or water from a height.

Ragini restaurant present a cheque for £750 to the Seaton Food Bank

IN the last seven weeks the volunteer Seaton Coronavirus Community Group has assisted residents more than 3,200 times with acts of kindness.

These have ranged from assisting with shopping, postal and prescription requirements, dealing with email, telephone and text enquiries, delivering informative and helpful leaflets and booklets keeping the community informed, miscellaneous assistance such as cooking and DIY, calling vulnerable members of the community for a friendly chat - a fantastic effort by all involved.
