Following the needless killing of a black man in police custody last week in America, groups of people across the world have come together as a united front against racism.

The Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police has reached out to residents as part of the larger community, to address the issue of racial discrimination and to ask that anyone planning a vigil or demonstration work with the police in respect of the ongoing public health crisis.

As government lockdown restrictions are easing, beaches, parks and public spaces in East Devon are busier than ever and visitors are being asked to help the council keep the district tidy, behave responsibly and keep to the two metre social distancing rule.

Since the early May Bank Holiday, people have been taking advantage of the good weather and the council has seen exceptional levels of demand on its services such as street cleaning, litter bin collections, and toilets.

Emergency services were called to Axmouth harbour yesterday evening after a young man 'tombstoning' was swept out to sea and could not get back.

Beer and Lyme Regis coastguards, Lyme Regis lifeboat, the coastguard helicopter from St Athan in Wales, fire and rescue co-responders and the ambulance service were called to the scene just after 6pm.
