Seaton traders are being asked to come up with ideas to encourage visitors back to the town.

East Devon District Council has received government funding from The Reopening High Streets Safely Fund (RHSSF) to support the safe opening of high streets and neighbourhood shopping areas.

As we look towards the Christmas holidays Re:store Axe Valley CIC is working with individuals in the community, SAVE Food Hub and local businesses such as Pebbles Café, Squirrel, Natural Worx and Owl & Pyramid to bring some Christmas cheer to those families in the local community who may be in need of support in these difficult and challenging times.

A crowdfunding campaign has been set up to help those in need, and with the generous support of the community and Devon County Council £1,930 of the £2,000 target has been reached to date.

The Christmas season is upon us and to give our local traders a boost, Axminster Nub News has launched a Virtual Christmas Market to encourage more shoppers to the high street.

We'll be regularly updating this list of local businesses throughout December and promoting it on our social media pages. It's completely free to take part for all independent businesses in the Axminster and Seaton areas.

The first day of the new tier system saw the opening of a new outdoor gym in Seaton's Seafield Gardens.

The £15,000 cost of the new equipment was funded by Seaton Town Council and will be maintained, going forward, by East Devon District Council.

Colyton Chamber of Feoffees has replaced the foundation stone on the front of Colyton Town Hall with a new bronze plaque, which was installed by Feoffee Jonathan Sweetland.

The Chamber of Feoffees commissioned the building of the town hall for the benefit of the community of Colyton nearly a century ago, in 1927.

The decision to put Devon in Tier 2 has naturally been met with some dismay. It seems to result from two factors. There has been a real spread of the coronavirus, including in the Seaton area, which the national lockdown had only just started to reduce; and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital is already coming under serious pressure.

Work on a new tramway halt that will link Seaton Wetlands with the Tramway is set to begin in January, ahead of a planned Easter opening.

Plans for the scheme were approved earlier this month, and will see a fourth stop added to the Seaton Tramway at Seaton Wetlands.

Devon will be placed under Tier 2 COVID restrictions when lockdown ends on December 2.

This means the county will facer stricter rules than before the second national lockdown, when it was in the more relaxed Tier 1.

It's been almost 12 years since more than 800 Woolworths stores across the country closed down - and it has to be one of the most missed shops in UK history!

So here's a blast from the past, with photos showing the Woolworths store in Seaton, first opened in 1955 and closed when the chain shocked the nation and went into administration in 2008.

MPs from across Devon are united in their relief that England's second national lockdown won't be extended – and all are calling for the county to be placed into the lowest tier of restrictions.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the Commons on Monday that the three-tiered regional measures will return from December 2 and the lockdown will end, but he added that each tier will be toughened.
