Two councillors resign from Seaton Town Council leaving five vacancies

Two councillors have resigned from Seaton Town Council, leaving the authority with five vacant positions.
Councillor Martin Shaw, who also serves as a county councillor for Seaton, announced on his blog yesterday that he and Cllr Jack Rowland, vice-chairman of the town council and a former mayor, had decided to step down separately.
Cllr Rowland has resigned to devote his attention to the finance portfolio he occupies as an East Devon District Council member.
Cllr Shaw said: "I have been considering resigning for some time because my work as a county councillor leaves me unable to play a full role in the town council.
"I have brought forward my resignation today in order that my vacancy may also be filled."
Cllr Shaw said he would still attend town council meetings to report on county council matters and answer any questions.
The following tribute to both councillors is paid on the town council's website: "Seaton Town Council would like to say thank you to Cllrs Rowland and Shaw for all the time, effort and wise counsel that they have given during their years on the council.
"Due to their extensive portfolios at East Devon District and Devon County councils respectively. Both have taken the decision to stand down as town councillors but their legacy to the town will continue.
"Seaton Town Council looks forward to working with them in their district and county roles going forward."
The council is now left with just seven members. The five vacancies will be filled at a by-election should ten electors call for one or by co-option.
