Seaton teen arrested after police officer assaulted in Lyme Regis

AN 18-year-old man from Seaton was among three to be arrested in Lyme Regis in the early hours of this morning after an altercation with police.

Police were called to Monmouth Beach car park in Lyme Regis just after midnight this morning (Thursday) following reports of a disturbance in the car park.

Officers attended and spoke to a small group of people who reported that there had been an altercation.

When the group were asked to leave the area, a 16-year-old from Uplyme refused and became abusive towards officers. He was then arrested.

A second teenager reportedly struck an officer with a crutch. The officer suffered a head injury was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 22-year-old man from Lyme Regis was arrested for a public order offence as he tried to block the ambulance as it was leaving with the injured officer.

Following searches of the area by the National Police Air Service helicopter, an 18-year-old man from Seaton was arrested on suspicion of assaulting the officer.

All three are now assisting officers with their enquiries.

A statement from the police said: "Dorset Police takes reports of violence towards our officers and other emergency service workers very seriously and a full investigation into this incident is now underway."
