After months in the planning, Seaton Chamber has now been officially launched.

A number of local business owners, business leaders and associated members of the community have got together and created a committee to reform the former Seaton Chamber of Commerce - an organisation consisting of local business owners that had become dormant.

Having dropped 'commerce' from its title with community-focussed ambitions that go beyond the business industry, the group has reformed as Seaton Chamber, widening its scope to include local residents who have a passion to place focus on the town's growth as both a place to live but also a successful visitor destination.

The primary aims of the committee are to promote and work on a number of both tactical and strategic projects to help sustain the town and local area, connect with local communities and appropriate organisations to support these projects and generate prosperity and growth to the town and local area.

Its vision is to become the recognised voice of the Seaton area that achieves year-on-year improvement of the Seaton business and community environment, through initiative and action.

Seaton Chamber saves public toilets

The group has already been hard at work on its first projects – the most well-received of which will surely be plans to take on the running of both the Harbour Road and Marsh Road public toilets, which have been under threat of closure by East Devon District Council for several months.

Seaton Chamber recently announced it had been in talks with the council since November and was "very close to striking a deal" to take over the toilets.

The statement added: "Both sites will undergo a complete refurbishment and will become assets owned and managed by the Chamber and the people of Seaton. The toilets are here to stay and will not be closing!"

Competition for young creatives

Seaton Chamber has also announced an exciting competition for creative, local young people aged 14 to 18.

They are looking for designs for a captivating town map that will serve as an essential guide for locals and visitors alike.

The winning design could be displayed on eye-catching boards around Seaton and showcased prominently online and in print.

Whether you have a flair for graphic design, a passion for illustration, or a knack for cartography, Seaton Chamber encourages you to unleash your imagination.

The map should showcase key landmarks, attractions, parks, and amenities, while infusing the entrant's own artistic style and personal touch.

Entries will be judged by a panel from Seaton Chamber, who will assess creativity, clarity, usability, and originality.

The winning design will not only receive a prestigious accolade and the privilege of having their creation displayed prominently for all to admire, but will also receive a £50 voucher to spend at a local Seaton shop.

The deadline for submissions is Friday, June 30. Paper copies of your entry can be dropped off at Itemdrop, 11 Marine Place, Seaton, and digital copies can be emailed to [email protected]
