There will be changes to recycling and waste collections and all LED leisure centres will close in East Devon for the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, September 19, which has been declared a Bank Holiday.

Recycling and waste collections will be one day later next week with no service on the day on the day of the funeral.

East Devon District Council's (EDDC) offices will be closed for the day.

Due to the national period of mourning, following The Queen's death, there will be no EDDC council meetings this week.

Proclamation

A district proclamation to formally announce the accession of His Majesty, King Charles III was held at EDDC's Honiton headquarters at Blackdown House on Monday, September 12.

EDDC's chair, Cllr Ian Thomas, read the proclamation before leading a two minute silence and the singing of the national anthem. The Union Flag outside the Honiton headquarters was raised for the duration of the proclamation and the event coincided with all the district proclamations across Devon.

Condolence Books

Residents wishing to leave a message in a condolence book can do so online through The Royal Family website or in person across East Devon.

This includes at the EDDC's offices at Blackdown House in Border Road, Heathpark Industrial Estate, Honiton, EX14 1EJ from 9am until 5pm Monday to Friday and between 10am and 1pm on weekends. Free parking is available at the Honiton offices during opening hours.

Books of condolences have also been provided at each of the town council's offices across the district:

Anyone unable to sign a book in person or online can call 01404 515616 and leave a message and a member of staff will add the message to the online book of condolence.

Those wanting to leave floral tributes can also do so at:

  • The Green at Budleigh Salterton
  • The Strand – Exmouth, around/in front of the war memorial
  • Front of Blackdown House - Honiton – paved area
  • Seaton – Windsor Gardens lawn
