Seaton fire crew were called yesterday to help rescue a horse which had become stuck in a muck pile.

On arrival at the scene in Axmouth, the officer in charge set up a telehandler which was sent from the service's Urban Search and Rescue Team at their headquarters.

A vet from Summerleaze Vets in Kilmington was already on the scene and had slightly sedated the horse in preparation for the extraction.

Exmouth fire station's specialised animal rescue unit then arrived and the crews began extracting the horse using a specialist lifting device for large animals along with the telehandler.

Working closely with the vet and owner of the horse, the rescue was safely carried out and the horse was returned to a safe place.
