Devon and Cornwall recorded its lowest daily number of coronavirus cases over the weekend, ahead of restrictions further easing today (Monday).

Saturday saw 14 new cases reported in the two counties confirmed, this later dropping to 13 as a false positive in Mid Devon was removed, and Sunday saw 13 new cases confirmed, this also being reduced to 12 as a previous positive in Torbay was removed.

The two daily figures are the lowest since 12 cases were confirmed on September 3.

While infection rates in West Devon, East Devon, Torridge and Mid Devon are slightly up, they are all less than half the national average, and in all cases, the rise is equivalent to less than one additional confirmed case a day.

The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital is the only hospital in Devon to currently have COVID-19 patients, with seven in its care, the lowest figure since October 13.

There have been no COVID-19 deaths in any of Devon and Cornwall's hospitals since April 29, with this being the longest period since September without a death occurring.

Now Devon residents can enjoy the further easing of restrictions today, as the government reaches step three on its roadmap out of lockdown.

Here's what's changing:

• Pubs, restaurants and cafes can serve customers inside* Indoor entertainment and attractions can open, including cinemas, museums, theatres and children's play areas

• Up to six people or two households will be able to meet indoors and up to 30 people outdoors

• Organised sports and fitness classes can take place indoors and saunas and steam rooms may reopen

* Outdoor entertainment, such as outdoor cinemas and performances can reopen* Up to 30 people can attend weddings, receptions and commemorative events, including wakes

• International travel can begin to reopen, allowing people to go on foreign holidays to 'green list' countries

• Face coverings will no longer be needed in classrooms

This is stage three in the government's four-part plan. Stage four – when it is hoped all regulations on social interactions can be lifted and nightclubs and other businesses can reopen – will not take place until June 21 at the earliest.
