Fire crews extinguished a deliberately-started blaze at a barn and workshop in Southleigh, near Colyton, last night (Sunday).

The fire, reported at about 10pm, involved a building off Seaton Road containing agricultural equipment and eight LPG gas cylinders, the workshop, and a car.

Seaton and Sidmouth fire crews attended the scene, along with the water bowser from Exeter.

They used hose reel and main jets to extinguish the flames and cool the three propane cylinders, one butane cylinder and one patio gas cylinder, from a distance.

They also used a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots.

The operation ended at 1.44am and investigations at the scene found that the fire had been started deliberately.
