The number of new coronavirus cases confirmed across Devon and Cornwall last week remained unchanged from the previous seven days, as infection rates remain among the lowest in England.

A total of 132 new cases were confirmed across the two counties for the second successive week – with the total since the start of the pandemic now standing at 48,551.

Of the 132 new cases confirmed since May 28, 27 were in Cornwall, with 8 in East Devon, 15 in Exeter, 9 in Mid Devon, 6 in North Devon, 34 in Plymouth, 6 in South Hams, 8 in Teignbridge, 13 in Torbay, 3 in Torridge and 3 in West Devon.

The current infection rate in Devon of 7.7 per 100,000 people is among the lowest the county and has been since early April.

Unlike other areas of England, cases in Devon and Cornwall do not yet appear to be rising following the relaxation of restrictions under step three of the government's roadmap out of lockdown, with only one person in hospital across the two counties, in the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.

Latest Public Health England data shows that less than five cases of the Delta variant, which originated in India, have been recorded in Cornwall, Plymouth, Torbay and Teignbridge, with five cases in Exeter.

East Devon, Mid Devon, North Devon, the South Hams, Torridge and West Devon have had no recorded cases of this variant.

As of June 2, 1,338,160 COVID vaccines has been delivered in Devon, with 773,465 being a first dose, and 564,695 being a second dose.

Figures show 60.1 per cent of the adult population in East Devon have received at least one dose, and 40.8 per cent have received two.

Coronavirus case numbers in the local area remain very low, with no areas in East Devon reporting more than three cases.

In small areas with fewer than three cases, full data is not provided to protect the identity of individuals.

Cases have been 'fewer than three' across the local area for several weeks now.

The closest area where there are currently three or more confirmed cases is Pennsylvania & University in Exeter, with five cases.
