Puffins at Beer Pre-School has unveiled a brand new outdoor canopy to allow the children to learn and play comfortably and safely outdoors all year round.

The new canopy is designed to protect the children from adverse weather conditions, as well as harmful rays, whilst getting plenty of fresh air and exercise.

The outdoor canopy was designed and installed by Stacey Powell Property Services with an all-timber construction to match the existing Forest School shelter in the pre-school garden.

The canopy is fitted with a 16mm clear polycarbonate roof to protect the children from the elements and is finished with a metal Puffin detail on the peak of the roof.

The outdoor canopy project would not have been possible without the support of local businesses and families.

Puffins Committee chairperson Kate Boalch commented: "The Puffins Committee would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported this project, including; Seaton Lions, Beer Regatta, Beer Bags, The Grizzly, the Co-Op and Bay View Guesthouse, as well as all of the Puffins staff, families and Beer community for their ongoing support."

Now under new management, Puffins has recently appointed Beth Comber as play leader. Beth is also a certified Forest School leader and has worked at Puffins for nine years.

She said: "At Puffins we actively encourage free flow outdoor play and this is even more important in light of COVID-19. The covered area will enhance the front playground to provide a sheltered environment for the children right outside the front of the building."

Puffins has also recently appointed Charlotte Matthews as deputy manager, bringing with her a wealth of experience to enhance the children's learning and experiences having previously held posts at Kilmington Pre-school, Colway House in Lyme Regis and Uplyme Pre-school.

Kate adds: "We would like to officially congratulate Beth on her new role as pre-school leader from all of the Committee and also extend a warm Puffins welcome to Charlotte."

Puffins at Beer Pre-School is a charitable, committee-run organisation relying on donations from fundraising, parents, friends, families and local businesses.

Puffins is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3.30pm offering full or part time childcare for 2 to 5 year olds. It is located in Beer, next to Pecorama, offering Forest School facilities and exceptional views across Lyme Bay.
