MIllwey Rise FC - the 1965-66 promotion team

I came back from Dorset in the early Spring of 1965 after three years away. The agricultural machinery company I worked for in Dorset became South Western Farmers when it aquired East Devon Farmers and I was promoted to be their first machinery salesman in Devon.

We moved into Rakehill Cottage, whose postal address was Wilmington, although it was nearer Stockland Hill TV mast than the village. We rented it from Major Hatswell at Wylmington Hayes, one of several properties he owned locally. There was no electricity but this was promised to arrive within twelve months. The cottage's saving grace was an Aga which provided warmth, hot water and our cooking facilities. Illumination was by oil or tilley lamp, and the occasional candle when we ran out of paraffin.

A very wet morning led to a great day for some football. With Alex Jones taking on management duties for this week, the Uplyme second string carried over their great form from recent weeks starting strong, applying lots of pressure as a team, and working it from back to front.

Seaton Ladies pictured before their victory over Plainmoor

Seaton Ladies had a free week and enjoyed a well deserved break after playing three games in seven days before hosting Plainmoor who were in great form having several subs and starting the game on the back of two wins.

Both teams were evenly matched. Seaton started sluggish and struggled to link up through the channels. Plainmoor picked up some second balls in the middle of the park and managed to win a corner. Unfortunately for Seaton, Plainmoor managed to covert the corner into a goal, leading 1-0.
