AlthoughI was a better footballer than cricketer, cricket was my number one passion as a young man. Not just playing the game but watching it as well.

Local cricketers could be playing in a new 20-20 midweek tournament next season.
The idea was revealed this week at the annual general meeting on Uplyme and Lyme Regis Cricket Club, one of the most exciting local sides whose talents suit the 20-over format of the sport.
THREE consecutive centuries by Uplyme & Lyme Regis all-rounder Tyler Wellman, a feat unknown in local recreational cricketing circles, clinched the Nub News Sport top ten batting award.
Tyler topped the top ten batting list with a 353 runs scored during the Devon mini-league games and wins £125 for his club and a trophy to mark his achievement.
WATCHED by a crowd of more than 200, Uplyme and Lyme Regis crowned a glorious covid-affected season with a convincing nine-wicket victory over Plymouth CS to win the Devon Mini-League Tier 5 final.
It was the biggest crowd ever seen for a cricket match at the King George V playing field and brought to a close a season in which Uplyme – formed in 1886 but which nearly went out of existence two years ago – have produced the most exciting cricket seen in the club's long history.
KILMINGTON failed by just 13 runs to win the Devon Mini-League Tier 3 final against Stoke Gabriel.
Batting first Stoke posted 219 for 7 from their 40 overs with S. Ansley (79), A. Kanwar (37) and M. Meech (27) top scoring.
THIS has certainly been a season to remember for Uplyme and Lyme Regis Cricket Club and after their final league match on Saturday they are hoping to have something to really celebrate.
A big crowd is expected at the King George V playing field in the afternoon when Uplyme meeting Plymouth Civil Service in one of the Devon Cricket Mini-Leagues finals having gone unbeaten in the six matches that got them to the play-offs.

TWO years ago Uplyme and Lyme Regis Cricket Club – formed in 1886 – were close to folding through lack of finance.
They were struggling on and off the field, leading to the withdrawal of their 2nd X1, and had run out of money with a new roller to pay for.
Kilmington have booked their place in the Devon Cricket Mini-League finals.
They finished top of the East E 1 (Tier 3) division with 86 points, after a tussle with Upottery 1st X1 (second, 81 points), Ottery St Mary 1st (3rd, 78 points) and Sidmouth 2nds X1 (4th, 15 points).
The Devon & Exeter League have announced that the first games of the season will be held on Saturday, September 19th with a 3 pm kick-off.
In the Premier East Division three games will start the season: Beer Albion v Feniton 1sts, Dawlish United 1sts v Sidmouth Town 2nds (to be played on Dawlish Leisure Centre main pitch, Upottery 1sts v Kentisbeare 1sts.
