Uplyme and Kilmington off to a good start

The new East Devon T-20 Bash, sponsored jointly by LymeOnline and Nub News, got underway last week with three fixtures – Rising Ottery Super Beavers (Ottery St Mary) v Uplyme Muffin Men (Uplyme & Lyme Regis), Seaton Pirates (Seaton CC) v Upottery Kestrels (Upottery CC) and Sidbury Moles (Sidbury CC) v Kilmington Swingers (Kilmington CC). Honiton Hawks (Honiton CC) had a bye.

Uplyme Muffin Men proved to be too strong for Ottery Rising Ottery Super Beavers. Uplyme batted first and amassed a total of 182-6 with Sam Farrow (55), Steve Batey (43) and Mark Batey (38) top scoring in a performance peppered with aggressive batting which saw several sixes flying out of Ottery's expansive ground.

Pick of the Ottery bowlers was Thomas Hinch with figures of 2 for 37 off his four overs.

Ottery struggled with the bat and were bowled out for 71 with Bill Harrison, coming in at at number 7, top scoring on 20.

Gareth Stoneman was Uplyme's most effective bowler, finishing with 3 for 5 off three overs.

It was a far closer affair at Seaton Pirates where Upottery Swingers fell short of a victory by just six runs.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, setting a target of 125. Mali Marshall, Seaton's West Indian bowler, showed that he is no mug with a bat, top scoring on 38 with good support from Ben Morgan (35), Joel Seward (22) and Matthew Hewer (15).

Ben Kidson (2 for 20 off his four overs) was the pick of the Upottery bowlers.

When stumps were drawn after their 20 overs, Upottery were on 120 with one wicket left with Ryan Pulman (48) and Matt Broom (17) top scoring.

Ben Morgan, Joe Berry and Raoul East shared the bowling honours with two wickets apiece.

Kilmington Kestrels only lost one wicket in their game at Sidbury Moles with the Reed boys, Billy and Matt, both in fine form with the bat. Matt scored 63 and Matt carried his bat for 53, steering their side to a total of 137-1.

Sidbury replied with 131-7 with Ed Chester top scoring on 28. Tim Boniface was the pick of the Seaton bowlers, taking 3 for 33 off his four overs.

Points so far: Kilmington 5; Uplyme 5, Seaton 4, Honiton 0; Upottery 0. Ottery 0. Sidbury 0.
