Lyme Regis 1st team continued their impressive form with a 4-1 victory in a friendly at home to Devon and Exeter West Division Two outfit Broadclyst this afternoon (Saturday).

The Seasiders got off to an explosive start with an early goal when Cameron Vere steered home a Cody Bowditch cross.

Lyme were without a recognised goalkeeper which saw Dan Rendall taking the gloves again and he pulled off two great saves, tipping one around the post and the other diving bravely at the feet of a Broadclyst attacker, protecting Lyme's lead.

Tom Bastin, who was causing the visitors all sorts of questions up front, was unfortunate not to have increased Lyme's lead before half-time with a fierce shot from a penetrating Ben Vine cross after a run from inside his own box.

The Seasiders started the second half just as they did in the first, increasing their lead to 2-0 when Tom Bastin popped the ball home after the visiting keeper dropped the ball.

Bastin also got Lyme's third, a far-post header from an inch-perfect Robbie Fellingham free-kick.

Broadcast, a robust side which made Lyme work hard, were rewarded for their energy with a consolation goal late in the game, but the final goal came in the 88th minute when man-of-the-match Cody Bowditch made it 4-1 with a delightful lob into the net with the Broadclyst keeper off his line.

Squad: Dan Rendall; Ben Bowditch, Cam Vere, Kingsley Wellman, Ben Bowditch; Callum Garrett, Ben Turner, Robbie Fellingham; Rikki Sargent, Ven Bine, Tom Bastin. Substitute: Fred Parsons.

Lyme now look forward to meeting Lapford in the Premier League play-off at Topsham on Saturday, June 5th (kick-off 3 pm). They go into this fixture playing fast, exciting football and if they come home with the trophy it will be considered to be one of their top achievements despite of a season like no other due to the COVID interruptions.

Lyme manager Julien Simier is hoping to arrange one more friendly fixture at the end of next week before the big game.
