Seaton parkrun usually takes place on the Esplanade but has not been held since March due to COVID-19 restrictions

Seaton parkrun passed its fourth anniversary this weekend but, sadly, with no celebrations or event due to the current lockdown restrictions.

Parkruns are free, weekly, community events held all around the world but they were stopped in March due to the global pandemic. The timed 5k events have started to return with parkrun now taking place again in Japan, New Zealand, parts of Australia and, closest to home, in Guernsey.

East Devon District Council has put measures in place to abide by the national coronavirus lockdown restrictions introduced last week.

Most services will continue as normal and 20 public toilets, which are being cleaned daily to strict COVID-19 guidelines, remain open during the lockdown period, from 8am to 7pm each day.

Skateparks and multi-use games areas across East Devon have now closed for the during of the second national lockdown.

While these facilities were initially set to remain open, general guidelines from the government and more detailed guidance from Sport England has resulted in a decision to close them until December 3.

Councils across Devon have welcomed the fourth tranche of COVID funding they have been awarded by the government, but have warned it won't cover all their predicted losses and say they still have no idea what level of funding they will get next year.

An extra £10million from the government has been given to councils in Devon, with the intention that it will help cover coronavirus-related costs and ensure councils have the resources they need to keep providing vital services over the winter.

Plans approved for new tram stop

Plans for a new tramway halt that will link up two of Seaton's main tourist attractions have been given the go-ahead.

East Devon District Council's planning committee on Wednesday unanimously approved the scheme that will see a fourth stop added to the Seaton Tramway at Seaton Wetlands.
