Planning permission was granted for the enhancement scheme in 2017

Seaton Town Council will hold a virtual public meeting to allow residents to ask questions on its recent decision to scrap the seafront enhancement scheme.

Planning permission for the enhancement scheme was granted in 2017 and it would have included pedestrianisation of sections of the seafront, demolition of the existing public toilets and moridunum and construction of a new building, alterations to the highway layout and a new pedestrian crossing, to allow formation of new public space with raised seating and siting of seasonal huts for commercial use.

Devon has been moved up to Tier 3 as the threat of coronavirus continues to rise across the country.

This means the county, along with neighbouring Dorset, Cornwall and Somerset, are on 'very high alert' and restrictions will see all pubs and restaurants close at end of service tonight – meaning they will not be open for New Year's Eve.

Seaton's Town Mayor, Cllr Ken Beer, has officially announced the winners of this year's Christmas Lights Display competition.

The winners of the best business displays were: Brogan Buzec, Pastimes, Pebbles, Just Flowers, Ragini and Passiflora .

Twenty-six coastguards, including a team from Beer, were called to help a woman stuck in mud halfway up a cliff and a dog walker cut off by the tide at Charmouth today.

West Bay, Lyme Regis and Beer coastguards were called to Black Ven, between Lyme and Charmouth just before 3.30pm this afternoon (Sunday), along with the fire service and ambulance.

Flood warning for the Axe Valley

After heavy overnight rain as storm Bella swept across the South West, motorists have been warned that flooding is possible across the Axe Valley.

Storm Bella is expected to bring further heavy showers this evening and a band of heavy frontal rain overnight. This will cause rivers in the area to rise rapidly.

East Devon's 20 COVID-safe public toilets will be closed on Christmas Day and will open as usual from Boxing Day onwards.

Due to the level of staffing needed for the required enhanced cleaning for COVID-19 compliance, the council has decided to close the public toilets on Christmas Day.
