Volunteers from Beer Coastguards were kept busy last week with six callouts in three days.

The first call-out of the week came on Wednesday, April 14 at 2.21pm when it was reported that a dog had fallen over the cliff at 'Whitecliff', between Beer and Seaton.

Reg the dog had fallen about 80 feet down the cliff but was still alive. Beer and Lyme Regis Coastguards worked together to set up full rope access set up and a technician was lowered down to the dog.

He placed him into an animal rescue bag before being recovered back to the cliff top and handed back to his owners.

Reg had suffered an injury to one of his hind legs and the family took him off to the vets for treatment.

On the same day, coastguards were called out again at 7.48pm to assist Devon & Cornwall Police search for a high-risk missing person, who was last seen getting off a bus in Sidmouth.

Coastguards searched the area from Salcombe Hill to Peak Hill, along the coast path and woodland around the path, while Sidmouth and Exmouth lifeboats searched the shorelineand cliffs from Ladram Bay to Salcombe Regis mouth.

All teams were stood down when the requested search area had been covered with no persons found.

It was then an early start on Thursday, April 15 with the first call coming in at 3.02am. Both Beer and Exmouth Coastguards were called to once again held Devon & Cornwall Police with an incident in Sidmouth, not related to searches the previous night.

This was confirmed as a hoax call by the police shortly after we coastguards arrived on scene.

At 9.16am the team were called again along with Sidmouth lifeboat and a senior coastguard officer to begin searches again for the high risk missing person.

The team from Beer searched again from Salcombe Regis Mouth to High Peak, including the woodland areas beside the coast path. Nothing was found and all units were stood down once the areas had been covered thoroughly.

They returned to the station at 1.10pm but were called out again at 4.27pm to resume searches, along with Exmouth Coastguards, a police search team and mountain rescue teams.

This time, Beer Coastguards carried out a line abreast search - when the team walk through the area in a line side by side - from Muttersmoor to Sidmouth but again no one was located. They returned to the station at 8.50pm.

The next day - Friday, April 16 - the coastguards attended a multi-agency incident at Sandy Bay in Exmouth at 4.12pm. No further information will be released on this incident.
