Following the popularity of the Seaton Summer Celebration in 2022, held to celebrate the late Queen's platinum jubilee, Seaton Town Council decided to hold a similar event in 2023, with a view to making it an annual occasion.
Last Saturday, in the town's Cliff Field Gardens, with stunning views of Lyme Bay, residents and visitors to the town brought picnics and enjoyed four live performances from Honiton's fantastic indie folk act, Sweet Black Angels, followed by the good time honky-tonk Americana of The Swamp Stomp String Band.
Latin infusion rocksteady act The Skalatans had everyone up and dancing and the musical entertainment closed out with the brilliant crowd-involving Sikh-beats of Indian Man until sunset.
The event also provided plenty of fun for the youngsters with a circus skills workshop and stalls offering activities such as glass bottle art, biscuit decorating, splat the rat, face painting, glitter tattoos and lots more games, along with a display by Seaton Majorettes.
The recently re-elected Mayor of Seaton, Cllr Amrik Singh, said: "As with last year, the emphasis was on community, accessibility, inclusivity and good old-fashioned family fun.
"More than 2,200 people, of all ages, came and enjoyed picnics, live music and games at Seaton Summer Celebration. It really was a marvellous day.
"Once again, Seaton demonstrated that it really is a town where everyone is welcome."
Town clerk Julia Mutlow added: "Seaton Town Council has worked closely with many of the town's wonderful community groups to deliver this free event for all.
"Particular thanks go to Seaton Lions, the Royal British Legion, Christians Together and Churches Together, SAVE Food Hub, Seaton Majorettes, Seaton WI, Seaton Guides, Seaton Brownies and Rainbows, Seaton Scouts, the RNLI, Seaton Primary School PTFA, Re:Store and Seaton Carnival for their help and support.
"Additionally, thanks must go to the volunteer stewards who gave up their time on the day and for the financial support provided by Re:Store and Cllr. Hartnell from his Devon County Council Locality Budget."
