UPDATE: Seaton seafront moridunum marketed as commercial premises
The dilapidated moridunum on Seaton seafront is currently being marketed as a commercial premises.
The moridunum on The Esplanade – a former toilet block with ramps either side and a viewing platform above – is currently being marketed for lease by Lambert Smith Hampton, a commercial and residential real estate consultancy and agency, on behalf of East Devon District Council.
The agent initially listed the moridunum as potential office space, sparking disappointment from residents, but it was later clarified this was an error and the listing changed to a commercial development, such as a cafe.
This comes after East Devon District Council was unsuccessful in its £11million bid for Levelling Up funding to develop the Axe Valley, which would have seen Seaton seafront transformed, including redevelopment of old the public toilets and moridunum.
The district council has said there is opportunity for the moridunum site to be transformed into a café or other leisure related facility.
Marketing the site for an undisclosed sum, Lambert Smith Hampton's listing states: "A unique opportunity to acquire the long leasehold of Seaton Moridinum.
"With impressive sea views, the property would suit a food a beverage operation development or refurbishment, subject to all the necessary consents being obtained."
