Seaton Fire Station is currently recruiting on-call firefighters.

Retained on-call firefighters come from a variety of backgrounds – they could be self-employed, full time parents, trades people, administrators or shopkeepers with a common interest to support and keep their community safe.

On-call firefighters may be called out a couple of times a week for may be one or two hours during the day, evenings or weekend. Incidents can range from attending fires, floods, road traffic accidents, chemical spills, and talking to your community about fire prevention.

Recruits can decide the hours when they are available but are asked to be flexible. The minimum contract is 63 hours per week (part cover) and 84 hours per week (full cover).

To apply, you must be aged 18 or over, able to respond to Seaton Fire Station from home or work within five minutes, physically and medically fit with good eyesight and hearing, prepared for the commitment and discipline of being a firefighter, and preferably hold a full UK driving licence

Benefits of becoming an on-call firefighter include:

- Making a positive difference in your local community

- Camaraderie; working in a diverse, sociable and welcoming team

- Remuneration with an annual retainer (between £1750-£3100 depending on contract)

- Payment at an hourly rate for training and for each call attended

- Transferable skills to apply in the workplace

- The opportunity to gain qualifications in fire engineering

- Access to fitness training equipment in the fire station
