Plans for a new bus depot in Harbour Road, Seaton, for local company Axe Valley Mini Travel (AVMT), have been submitted to East Devon District Council.

AVMT hopes to convert part of the building and yard at Harcombe Engineering, 101 Harbour Road – a fabrication and mechanical workshop – to create a new depot.

The planning application requests permission to use 278.7 square metres of the site as a workshop for bus maintenance and 557.4 square metres of the yard to park buses. There would also be space for staff parking and a wash bay for the buses.

The Harcombe Engineering site is some 300 metres from AVMT's current depot at 26 Harbour Road, where the tenancy is coming to an end.

East Devon District Council recently refused permission to redevelop the 26 Harbour Road site into nine flats as they said this "would harm business and employment opportunities in the area and result in the loss of existing employment land".

There were also concerns about flood risk.
