This week we are focusing on Pebble Coffee House, a stone's throw from Seaton Beach. Pebbles Coffee House is an independent coffee Shop serving speciality coffee, beverages, breakfasts and light lunches. Our famous delicious scones are baked daily on the premises and our breakfasts are legendary!
Pebbles Coffee House has been in Seaton for many years. The building itself was originally part of the Gould's Hotel which was in place on the site in 1920s before the sea wall was constructed to keep out storm waters and the Esplanade was open offering a lovely view across to the beach.
The hotel, which was described as "well-appointed" and a "comfortable establishment" included an impressive dining room with arched ceilings. This dining room is the section of the building that is occupied by Pebbles Coffee Shop today and the arched ceiling structures are still visible.
The owner, Carly Dean-Tribble, is the driving force behind Pebbles and with her years of experience it's no wonder that husband James says "her word is law at Pebbles! She's the yin to my yang!"
Carly has been a chef since she was 17 in Devon and the East Midlands as well as a restaurant manager having years of experience running a 150-seater restaurant and having been at World Of Country Life, as well as working at the Kings Arms in Otterton. Her passion is great customer service along with a warm smile and can-do attitude.
Husband and joint owner James Tribble, Devon born and bred, has lived in East Devon since his teens. The other 'half' of the team at Pebbles, he came to Seaton seven years ago to work with wife Carly at their newly acquired business. He has years of experience in hospitality including working at the popular and busy Ladram Bay as assistant manager and being assistant manager at the Kings Arms.
These days he is in the kitchen at Pebbles creating menus and cooking - which he says he took to like a "duck to water". Self-taught, his kitchen style is "adventurous and experimental" and is the inspiration behind the fantastic menus.
