Seaton, Beer, Colyton and surrounding villages are looking forward to community celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.

An extended Bank Holiday weekend will mark the Queen's 70 years on the throne from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5 with special events to take place up and down the country.

Seaton will be marking the occasion with a Summer Celebration on Thursday, June 2 in Cliff Field Gardens, from 4pm to 10pm.

Entry will be free and those attending are encouraged to bring their own picnic and enjoy a programme of live music, majorettes displays, circus skills workshop, laser clay pigeon shooting, stalls and games, followed by a ceremonial beacon lighting - one of many to be held across the country.

This event is being organised by Seaton Town Council in partnership with local community groups, and further announcements are expected in the coming weeks.

On Sunday, June 5 Beer will be hosting an all-day village street party from 1am to 6pm on Fore Street, or in the event of wet weather in the Mariners Hall.

Residents are invited to bring their own food and drink, wear fancy dress and paper crowns

A number of local businesses and club and organisations will also be holding their own celebrations, so residents are encouraged to look out for posters and further details in the run up to the big event.

Colyton is going all out for the jubilee, with celebratory events starting this month.

The Colyton Chamber of Feoffees has invited the Axe Vale Orchestra to play well-known patriotic numbers from 3.30pm on Saturday, May 22 in Colyton Town Hall, followed by tea and cake.

Colyton Primary schoolchildren will be dancing around the maypole and hosting a tea party on the church green on Thursday, May 26, while Colyton Brownies are planning a Castle Door Trail around local shops between May 27 and August 29 with 70 painted doors and clues to go on display - one for every year of the Queen's reign.

On the jubilee weekend itself, events in Colyton will kick off on Friday, June 3 with archive footage of past royal events screened in Colyton Town Hall, along with displays by the primary school.

Church Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday, June 4 for a street party between 12noon and 2.30pm with residents invited to bring along their own picnics.

A Party in the Park will then be held at the Peace Memorial playing field from 6pm to 10pm, with live music, a barbecue, bar and the lighting of beacons at 9pm.

A special service will then be held at St Andrew's Church at 9.30am on Sunday, June 5.

Events will be rounded off later in June, with the Colyton Chamber of Feoffees hosting a Misdummer Picnic on June 24, 6pm to 9.30pm at the Peace Memorial playing field, with music from the Arcadia Jazz Band.

There will also be best dressed window and best dresses house competitions in the town. Residents are also asked to dress scarecrows as celebrities and famous people from the Queen's reign, and other potential events will include a royal quiz, duck race and big breakfast.
