Residents share their ideas for the future

By Francesca Evans 22nd Sep 2020

Seaton Town Council and the new Promote Seaton group have called for ideas to improve the town - and residents have been quick to respond!

After reporting on the town council's call for ideas, Seaton Nub News has been inundated with ideas for the future from local residents.

Seaton residents have been taking to social media to share how they think the town could be improved, with ideas ranging from major regeneration of the seafront to more outdoor events and entertainment.

Ideas shared by residents have included the following:

- Implement the seafront regeneration project as a top priority

- Introduce restricted times or a restricted area for fishermen on the seafront, to allow swimmers to also use the area safely

- Make the beach safer and cleaner with clear posters on dog restrictions

- Encourage visitors to the high street from the coach park by distributing maps to passengers

- Re-pave the hight street after the recent heavy rainfall

- Encourage outside entertainment in summer months, within COVID-19 restrictions, particularly around the clock tower area

- Promote the seafront with paddle boarding and other activities

- Look into the possibility of creating a pier/pontoon

- Move the Tourist Information Centre to an independent area, separate from other attractions

- Reintroduce volunteers that welcomed coach parties

- Encourage more events, such as regular markets and car boot sales, busking and outdoor live music, an annual horserace with pantomime horses on the beach, vintage car displays, etc.

- Improve the town's Christmas lights display

- Open a youth centre for aged 13-plus

Anyone with ideas and the knowledge to make them work is being urged to contact Cllr Derek Haggerty, who is fronting the Promote Seaton initiative, by emailing [email protected]

A notice on the council website says: "This is your town too so help to make it a place you can be proud of."

In particular, the council said they are keen to hear from teenagers and young people.
