"A truly exceptional piece of work." That's how town and district councillor Marcus Hartnell has described the rebuilding of the seafront planter in Seaton by Town Maintenance Officer Phil Tuckley and Harcombe Engineering.

The planter was damaged in two successive storms.

The old bricks were cleaned and reused and the work was carried out at a fraction of the price of quotations sought last year.

Cllr Hartnell said: "Whilst there are no guarantees that it will withstand the power of the sea in the future, every effort has been made to reinforce it, to ensure it does, leaving just one last section for which we are currently considering options. Just one of the projects that Seaton Town Council is involved in to improve our town."

A number of Seaton residents praised the standard of work on social media.
