PLANNING ROUND-UP: Plans for Thai takeaway in private home

An application had been submitted to change the use of a private house in Seaton to mixed residential and takeaway use.

The owners of 9 Celandine Close hope to offer a limited Thai takeaway service from their home, preparing locally-sourced and freshly-made dishes for a maximum of just six customers per day.

Orders will be taken by phone or text and a pre-allocated collection time will be offered so no more than one car or pedestrian arrives at the same time, although the house has space for up to five cars on its driveway.

With only one chef and everything made to order, the business will not be in a position to offer more than six meals a day.

The kitchen at the property has no direct neighbours with park and open farmland next door, and is fitted with an extractor fan.

Other applications currently under considering by East Devon District Council are as follows:

Construction of single-storey side extension, porch, raised patio and roof extensions to provide first floor accommodation including side roof lights at 31 Churston Rise; construction of single-storey and rear wrap-around extension, replacing front door and window with two bay windows at 7 Starre Close; retrospective application for permanent use of temporary building at Thornfield, 87 Scalwell Lane; two-storey side extension and new driveway at 1 Hawksdown View.

Recent planning applications in the Seaton area to be approved by East Devon District Council include the following:

Construction of a single-storey extension at 23 Townsend Avenue; constructions of raise decking and garden shed (retrospective) at 40 Lydgates Road; change of use of existing lane (agricultural and South West Water) under the applicant's ownership to domestic use for the existing swelling and for the relocation and enlargement of a new storage outbuilding at Bridleways, Holyford Lane, Colyford.

Full details of all the above applications can be found on the East Devon District Council planning site
