Poet Laureate Simon Armitage was welcomed to Colyton Library on Saturday, March 26.

Colyton was selected as one of only eight venues for Simon's C-D leg of his ten-year tour of British libraries.

Joining him as he read some of his poems were three prize-winning poets from local secondary schools who also read their winning entries on the theme of 'Our Future, Our Planet'.

They were Faith Boxer from Axe Valley Academy in Axminster, Scarlett Timlett-Sheerham from Colyton Grammar and Ethel Short from The Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis.

The winner of an art competition on the same theme, Alex Gibbons from Colyton Grammar, had his artwork displayed as a backdrop.

The event was live streamed to St Andrew's Church to allow the entire community to enjoy it without having to squeeze into the small library.

All winning entries in the poetry and art competitions were also on display in the church and refreshments were enjoyed by all.
