Colyford to form new parish council after first election

The turnout was just over 52 per cent at the first election for the newly-formed Colyford Parish Council.

Colyford was given the go-ahead to formally split from Colyton Parish Council and form its own independent parish council in Decembr 2022, following a petition from residents.

A total of eight candidates stood for seven seats on the new council.

Winning candidates were as follows: Gilly Girling (233 votes), Eddie Jones (202), Sheree Manton (195), Ian Priestly (223), Adrian Slade (160), Michael Watt (184), and Tim Wheeler (223).

Neil Anderson was unsuccessful after receiving 150 votes.

A total of 380 ballot papers were issued out of a potential electorate of 726, with 30 ballot papers rejected, equating to a turnout of 52.3%.

There was no parish council election in Colyton, as not enough candidates put themselves forward for the 11 seats, which has been reduced from 13 following the split with Coyford.
