Lifeboat called to rescue windsurfer

By Francesca Evans 25th Sep 2020

Lyme Regis lifeboat crew were called the rescue of a windsurfer off Seaton beach this afternoon (Friday).

Beer coastguards and the lifeboat crew were called to the scene at 2.19pm.

The windsurfer was in difficulty a quarter of a mile off Seaton beach. He was unable to get his sail back up and was attempting to paddle against an off shore wind.

The man was south of the River Axe and was drifting out to sea when Lyme lifeboat reached his position.

The crew got him on board with his windsurfing board and brought him ashore to be met by the coastguards who assisted him and his board up the beach and issued safety advice.

No medical assistance was required.

Coastguards thanked the Spot On cafe for calling in the incident, along with other members of the public who dialled 999.
