Fire crews were called to Beer yesterday evening (Thursday) to rescue a person trapped in a car following a collision.

Crews from Sidmouth, Exmouth and a heavy rescue unit from Middlemoor were all called at 9.10pm.

On arrival, they found a casualty trapped in the vehicle and rescued them using hydraulic equipment and a reciprocating saw.

The casualty was then handed over to paramedics.

A statement from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews are at work with hydraulic equipment and a reciprocating saw to release a persons medically trapped in the vehicle into the care of South West Ambulance Service.

"Crews have successfully released the casualty from the vehicle into the hands of South West Ambulance Service by stabilising the vehicle and using an impact driver and small tools."
