Beer Coastguard & Rescue Team had a busy day yesterday (Tuesday), as they were called to a capsized canoe and cliff fall.

While on safety patrol in the morning, officers were tasked to a capsized canoe with two persons in the water at the mouth of the River Axe.

Luckily another the two casualties and assisted them, bringing the Canadian-style canoe back to shore safely.

The two people had launched the canoe in the river and thought they would paddle out of the river mouth without first checking its conditions. They soon lost control and capsized so safety advice was given.

This area is notorious for currents and swimmers have been swept out to sea on multiple occasions.

Later on Tuesday afternoon, coastguard officers were asked to investigate a cliff fall at Jacob's Ladder in Sidmouth, where they confirmed that no persons were injured.

A spokesperson said: "This is just one of many cliff falls that happen along the coast, please keep away from the base of cliffs and do not climb over recent cliff falls."
