Work starts today (Monday) to demolish the former CeramTec factory in Colyton.

Demolition contractor Hughes & Salvidge have been appointed to carry out the work on the Sidmouth Road site, which is expected to take 10 weeks.

The work will start with internal preparation, which the contractors have said "should be quite inconspicuous", with the actual demolition starting in mid-October.

Work will be carried out between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.

In a letter delivered to nearby residents, project manager Dan Byng said: "We will endeavour to keep any disruptions to a minimum and apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause."

The CeramTec site has remained empty since the factory was closed down several years ago. Outline planning permission has been granted for 72 new homes on the site, along with employment space to meet local demands and a new public green space.
