Beer Coastguards were called to three incidents in the Sidmouth and Exmouth areas over the weekend.

In the first incident on Saturday night, Beer Coastguards were called to assist their colleagues in Exmouth after a dog fell over the cliff at Orcombe Point.

The owner was in a distressed state looking for the dog. TheExmouth team were first on scene and located the dog on the beach but unfortunately it had died.

As a rope rescue was not required and the coastguards were stood down. They advice that those walking dogs on the cliffs keep them on leads at all times.

The Beer team were called out again on Sunday evening to assist the ambulance services with an injured man on Jacobs Ladder beach in Sidmouth.

He had suffered a leg injury and coastguards helped package him onto a stretcher and carry him to the ambulance for onward journey to hospital.

The coastguards were then called again in the very early hours of Monday morning after reports of a vessel on fire in Ladram Bay, between Sidmouth and Exmouth.

On our arrival, coastguards spoke to the first informant before carrying out a visual search of Lyme Bay They concluded that it was a tanker moored off Torbay with all its deck lights on.

With no other vessels reported in difficulty, the coastguards were stood down and returned to station at 2.10am.
