Coastguards were called to Seaton after a Chinese lantern was set off on New Year's Eve.

Beer Coastguards were called to a report of a red flare off Seaton beach at 6.39pm yesterday (Thursday). Solent coastguard put out a call to any vessels in the area, but no sightings were reported.

After speaking to the first informant and fishermen on Seaton beach, it was found that a Chinese lantern had been released from the seafront area and it was agreed this is what the first informant had seen.

If you see anybody in difficulty on the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
