Despite not being able to hold their normal leavers' event due to coronavirus restrictions, Colyton Caterpillars have tried to make their children's last day at the pre-school as special as possible.

The pre-school usually holds a family picnic in the grounds of St Andrew's Church on leavers' day, but it was not possible to host the event this year.

Instead, on Monday, July 6th, parents and children were invited to the pre-school at different times to collect their learning journals, a story of their time at Caterpillars, as well as a leaving gift, a caterpillar cake and a 'transition teddy' made and organised by Charles Lulham, Sylvia, Jenny, the Mothers Union and WI.

The Caterpillars also invited the reception teacher from Colyton Primary School, Mrs Kimber, to join in and the children wrote her letters.

They also had a surprise visit from the ice cream van to finish off the morning.

Staff at Colyton Caterpillers would like to give a huge thank you to all the knitters who helped with the teddies and wish all the children the best of luck with starting primary school in September.
