Cyclist and environmental campaigner Kate Rawles will ride a bamboo bike to Shute, in East Devon, for a Shute Festival event on Tuesday, June 20 at 7pm.
Kate Rawles left her job to ride her bamboo bike on a solo 8,000 mile odyssey through South America. After her journey, she wrote her new book, The Life Cycle, describing the changes in the environment and the biodiversity loss she discovered on her journey.
Kate will be in conversation with Shute Festival co-director Sam Knights.
Sam said: "We are pretty excited about this event. The Life Cycle, in showing why biodiversity matters to everyone, is a powerful call for action – action for life – as well as an informative, celebratory, engaging, adventure of a read."
The event will be held at St Michael's Church, Shute. Tickets are available on the door, costing £8 in card or cash or free for under 16s.
Copies of Kate's book will also be sold at a pop-up stall from Archway Bookshop and drinks will also be served for donations.
Shute Festival has been hosting a number of events throughout 2023. These have included talks, walks, and concerts.
On June 25, there is a guided walk to visit Shute's ancient trees, including the 1,000-year-old King John Oak, and on July 6 there will also be music from the Frank Stoddard ensemble.
Shute Festival was founded in 2016, and has since then brought both locally and nationally renowned authors, artists and musicians to an East Devon audience.
