East Devon District Council is expected to improve signage regarding dogs on the beach this week

Calls have been made for more action to be taken against dog owners who breach restrictions on Seaton beach.

The matter was raised at last week's annual town meeting, where one resident said that dog fouling had become a "big issue" in Seaton, as well as dogs on the beach when summer restrictions were in place.

They added that East Devon District Council were "not very good" at enforcing the rules, and it had made a huge difference when Seaton had its own dog warden.

The Mayor of Seaton, Cllr Dan Ledger, said it was unlikely Seaton would have its own dedicated dog warden again, as powers of dog wardens had been reduced and the focus was now more on educating the public.

He did add that East Devon District Council was expected ti improve its signage regarding dogs on the beach as of this week to make the restrictions more obvious.

In Seaton, dogs are not allowed on the beach between May 1 and September 30. This covers the area from the boundary of the parish of Seaton in the east to the end of the sea wall at

Castle Hill in the west (including the walkway immediately adjacent to the beach).
