For all our film friends in and around Seaton we would like to let you know about our next show from Beer Film Society at the Mariners' Hall on Thursday, March 17.

Firstly, a plot spoiler alert – 'King Richard' is absolutely not an ancient period drama and has nothing to do with the William Shakespeare play!

But there is drama aplenty in the movie 'King Richard' (12A) which is based on the inspiring true story.

The film follows the journey of Richard Williams, a determined father instrumental in raising two of the most extraordinarily gifted tennis players of all time – namely sisters Venus and Serena Williams.

Driven by a clear vision of their future and using unconventional methods, Williams (Will Smith) has a plan that will take the sisters from the streets of Compton, California to the global stage as legendary icons.

Nature versus nurture? It's all here so watch the film and you decide.

One thing is certain, the critics loved it, and the film has been nominated for six Oscars and four BAFTAS in 2022. "A towering turn from Will Smith, his best since Ali and one of the year's great screen performances, defines nearly every frame of this film." 4/5 – Kevin Maher (Times UK) "As stirring and heart-warming as you'd like, this is a hugely touching family opus. It's nothing revolutionary but it's straight from the heart and gets you in the gut." 4/5 – Alex Godfrey (Empire Magazine) If you would like to reserve a ticket and seat then email [email protected] The price of tickets for guests is £7, doors open at 6.45 and the bar will be available.
