Beer and Lyme coastguards called to overdue walker

Coastguards were called to the held of an overdue walker on the Undercliff coast path between Lyme Regis and Seaton yesterday evening (Saturday).

Coastguards from Lyme Regis and Beer were called at 7.49pm after it was reported that a lone female walker was well overdue.

As the teams were proceeding to the scene, news was received that the woman in question had been located on the coast road, returning to Rousdon. 

Lyme Regis Coastguards said: "The Undercliff path between Seaton and Lyme Regis is inaccessible and the terrain is exceedingly difficult underfoot. In the dark and cold, this path can be treacherous particularly if you are ill prepared. 

"Fortunately, this walker was found safe and well quickly after the alarm had been raised.

"We are urging anyone 'exercising' around our coast to stay safe and not take any unnecessary risks that may put extra pressure on 999 emergency services."
