Seaton resident Alex Rowe completed his non-stop 100-mile trek along the south coast over the weekend, raising in excess of £5,000 for a charity close to his heart.

Alex set off from Bournemouth with brother-in-law Mike Milburn at 5am on Saturday morning, with the challenge of walking back to Seaton in one stint.

Unfortunately, Mike 'hit the wall' at 48 miles and had to drop out, but friends and family stepped up to ensure Alex was safe as he continued through the night and did not have to walk alone.

After a rest, Mike was able to rejoin Alex as they crossed the finishing line on Seaton seafront after 31 hours walking.

The pair took on the challenge to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, as Alex's father Martin Rowe, also from Seaton, was diagnosed with the disease in 2011.

They hoped to raise £1,000 but have so far made more than five times their target, with the total currently standing at £5,776.

Alex said: "The event itself was physically difficult but I wasn't expecting how tough it would be mentally, especially when the finish line can't even be seen on the horizon!"

He added that the support he and Mike has received had been "overwhelming" and "incredible" and they would like to thank all those who have offered sponsorship.
