The Colyford Goose Fayre Committee are delighted with the response from the community to its Medieval Scarecrow Competition.

The competition is taking the place of the main Goose Fayre, which is not taking place this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There have been 25 registered entries and some of these produced multiple efforts, with some of the local social groups making half a dozen or more.

At the beginning of this week, there were 44 scarecrows on show around the village.

All entries will receive an award with specific prizes for those credited first, second or third by the judging panel.

Prizes and awards can be collected from Colyford Memorial Hall on Saturday, September 11, when the village will be hosting a special 'welcome event'.

An illustrated map showing the location of the scarecrows has been printed and copies will be available from the hall on Saturday.

There are a few copies in the village shop for those who cannot participate on Saturday and it can also be found on the Colyford Village website and the Colyford Village Facebook page.

There is also a quiz challenge specifically for children (they may need help with a few of the answers).

Alongside 12 of the scarecrows there will be a question and participants will be asked to note the first letter of the answer to the question in the space on the map.

All children returning to the memorial hall with the correct solution will receive a prize.

What's going on?

Everyone is welcome to come along to the hall any time between 10.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday, September 11 to have a cup of tea or coffee and chat.

There will be 17 local clubs and societies who will have representatives to discuss the activities they offer to the residents of Colyford.

This event is being organised by the Goose Fayre Committee. If you have any questions please call Vaughan Jelley 07932 721 777 or Liz Thomas 07502 206 704.
