PLANNING ROUND-UP: Proposal for seven new flats in Fore Street

PLANS have been submitted to create seven new flats at private house Foxford in Fore Street, Seaton.
The proposal would see the existing building, next door to the Kings Arms pub, converted into three flats and a maisonette, with a new communal entrance hall.
A three-storey extension would provide space for a further three flats, and the existing building and extension would be joined with a glazed staircase.
The application, submitted by Revival Building Works, said the development would help revive the "original village" part of Seaton, while providing much-needed housing.
It stated: "Although there are many detached and semi-detached estate homes surrounding Seaton, there is a very strong demand for flats as this type of living appeals to those who wish to downsize and do not want to be burdened by large gardens. Flats also are affordable to young couples who often do not have the time or inclination to spend on the upkeep of a garden.
"Both extremes in the housing ladder seek, or at least appreciate, the proximity of any development to a the high street, major retailer or supermarket, pubs and restaurants, healthcare, and education and sports facilities. Foxford has all these.
"This development both serves and is served by all the above, plus it will help reinvigorate this original village part of the town.
"In all, this development helps rejuvenate this part of town by providing new homes and residents, who then will be able to live and use the town centre and facilities all year round."
Other recent planning applications submitted for the Seaton area include the demolition of single and two-storey side and single-storey rear extensions, construction of two-storey side and rear extensions, single-storey rear extension with glass porch canopy, installation of rooflights to both sides of the property and provision of cladding, widening access entrance and associated hardstanding at Castle Cottage in Castle Hill; and the construction of a single-storey rear extension at 29 Elizabeth Road.
East Devon has recently granted approval for the following applications in Seaton: construction of porch at 23 Honey Ditches Drive; construction of single-storey rear extension at 63 Shearwater Way; and the conversion of garden store/workshop into annex at 5 Meadow Avenue.
