A new food initiative has been launched across the Axe Valley in a bid to reduce food waste in the town.

The Same Food Hub will operate from the following locations: St Gregory's Church Centre; Axmouth Village Hall; Finn Studio, Umborne Bridge, Colyton; Natural Worx, Seaton; and the Marshlands Centre, Seaton

It is a way of sharing food so it does not got to waste and everyone can turn up and collect some food free of charge.

The food is collected from local supermarkets and food producers and local food banks get first choice as a priority.

The service is also being offered in Axminster and Sidmouth.

For full details of locations and times go to www.savefoodhub.org.uk

On their website, the Same Food Hub list their priorities:

  • To collect edible, in-date, surplus retail food destined for waste from local food retailers or producers and share it in the local community free of charge.
  • To support local food banks and community food projects by providing them with collected food.
  • To build a community of volunteers who feel valued and safe.
  • To strengthen our community by helping reduce isolation and loneliness through sharing food.
  • To support in lifting up people within our communities affected by food poverty both directly through referrals to food banks and indirectly through signposting to relevant & appropriate agencies.
  • To act sustainably and to aim for zero carbon in all activities and actions.
  • To put people and planet first.
